Publishes final rule requiring understandable language, and more translations.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published its final rule this month requiring improved accessibility for public annual drinking water quality reports.
Annual reports on local drinking water quality are always available for the public to read, but they are often written in technical terms that are difficult for non-professionals to understand. To improve transparency, the EPA is requiring the annual reports to be written in more comprehensible language, and will also support additional translations as appropriate for the demographics of a given area.
“Today’s announcement will ensure these reports are easier to understand and easier to access in additional languages to provide all people with the information they want and need about their water.” said Acting Assistant Administrator Bruno Pigott of EPA’s Office of Water.
